Egyptian mummies, the very concept but especially the wrappings and shapes formed have long fascinated me.

Apart from Pharaohs, nobility and officials were often mummified. Sadly the High Priest Imhotep was mummified whilst still alive.

Also many animals and birds were mummified so as to accompany their owners or to be of service to them in the afterlife. It is also sad that many of these creatures were killed on order, as required. Mummified cats, dogs, snakes, ibis, and even crocodiles were included in the tombs.

The wrappings and shapes made by both humans and creatures, especially falcons are so interesting to draw. I have seen a ‘double wrapping’ of two falcons; this sets one off on a journey of imaginings and wonderings.
